I am a complete beginner to music and the guitar, can I take lessons with you?     [TOP]
Yes! Have no fear. I am a patient teacher. I have taught many complete beginners and I can teach you.

How long will it take me to be able to play guitar well?     [TOP]
Somewhere between 1 day and a billion years. Truth is I can't answer that question but I can tell you that you get out what you put in. The more time and effort you give, the faster you will progress.

My child is younger than 7 years old, can he or she take lessons with you?     [TOP]
Unless he/she displays Mozart-like musical abilities, no. The youngest I recommend for guitar lessons is 7 years of age. Even then, not every 7 year old is ready.
I will give you an honest assessment and will not continue lessons if your child is not ready.

I want to take lessons but I don't have a guitar.     [TOP]
Well, you'll need one. I recommend going to your local musical instrument dealer and asking about their beginner guitar packages. They're usually under $250. Don't feel intimidated, in this price range most things equal out. Stick with brand names like Ibanez, Epiphone, and Fender and pick something you like. For young children, ask about three-quarters and half-size guitars.

Aside from a guitar, do I need anything else to start lessons?     [TOP]
Guitar picks, a music stand, an amp (if your guitar is electric) and instrument cable, and a guitar tuner are all things you will need to buy. I also require all my students to have and use a metronome, a method book, and a manuscript notebook.

Do I need a method book?     [TOP]
Yes but not necessarily for the first lesson. I usually pick one out for you after our first lesson based on your skill level.

What styles do you teach?     [TOP]
For beginner and intermediate players, I can teach any style. For advanced students, my strengths are in rock, classic rock, hard rock, blues, pop, and classical guitar.

What are your rates?     [TOP]
Currently $27 for a half-hour and $50 for an hour, if you want to pay as you go. I encourage pre-paying for at least a month at a time as I give discounts for doing so. Here's the fee schedule:

Pay as you go - $27/$50
Pre-Pay Monthly - $25/$45

When do you expect payment?     [TOP]
For pay as you go, right before or after the lesson is fine. For other payment frequencies, payment for the next period is due at the last paid-for lesson. Cash and check are accepted methods of payment.

What about cancellations?     [TOP]

If you give me more than 24 hours notification by phone or email, all is good. Pay as you go students won't owe for the lesson and pre-pay students will just extend their pre-paid period by another lesson. Pre-paid students may also have the option of scheduling a make up. However, if less than 24 hours notice is given, I reserve the right to charge for the lesson.
